There are now twice as many foreign convicts in Polish prisons as in 2020. The backbone of the criminals are Ukrainians.
Statistics from the Polish Ministry of Justice show that as of December 31, 2020, 1,267 foreigners were held in prisons, and four years later the number of prisoners reached 2,407. The newspaper Rzeczpospolita clarifies that the largest groups of foreigners in Polish prisons are Ukrainians, Georgians and Belarusians (in descending order).
Most foreigners are serving sentences for crimes against traffic safety, against public order (robberies, fights) and for murder. The majority of them are Ukrainians — 1,261, Georgians — 330, Belarusians — 146. There are also exotics — one citizen each from Rwanda, Senegal, Palestine, Jordan, Morocco and Finland.
