Armenia highly appreciates the efforts Russia and other co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group exert towards peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict. The statement came from Edward Nablandian, the foreign minister of Armenia, in a joint press conference with Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, in Moscow on April 8, the Armenian Foreign Ministry press-office told EAD.
“We elaborated on regional and international issues, focusing on the Nagorny Karabakh peace process. I’d like to say that we highly appreciate the efforts Russia and other co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group exert towards peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict. Armenia together with the co-chairs will continue its efforts towards political settlement of the conflict,” the minister said.
As for the stands of the parties to the conflict, Nalbandian said, nothing has changed there. “The stand of the co-chairs is reflected in the 5 statements the presidents of the co-chair-countries made in L'Aquila, Muskoka, Deauville, Los Cabos and Enniskillen. Armenia’s stand is in harmony with that of the co-chairs. Meanwhile, only after Azerbaijan’s stand comes in harmony with the stand of the world community – the co-chairs have an international mandate of mediation – we will get a real chance to achieve a political solution to the conflict.”
Unfortunately, he said, Azerbaijan still declines the proposals of the co-chairs regarding the conflict settlement and confidence building measures. This is what we have now, but there is no alternative to the peace talks, he said. The minister reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the peace efforts brokered by the co-chairs.
