Tokayev's proposal to freeze the Ukrainian conflict did not come as a surprise to the Kremlin. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
He noted that the President of Kazakhstan Kosym-Zhomart Tokayev has repeatedly expressed his position. However, his statement at today's meeting with Vladimir Putin in Omsk indicates that Russia is not very effective in communicating its own position to partners. He promised to act in this direction with a vengeance.
"Tokayev has repeatedly spoken on the Ukrainian issue. He has a consistent position. That doesn't mean we agree. But Kazakhstan is our closest partner, our closest ally. So, we didn't talk about the root causes effectively enough. We will continue to do this with renewed vigor. Our partners should know our position. We will convey our position to our partners," Peskov said in an interview with RG.
As EADaily reported, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev suggested that Vladimir Putin freeze the Ukrainian conflict and return to the Istanbul Formula 2.0.
Vladimir Putin, responding to Tokayev's proposal, said he would inform him separately on the Ukrainian issue.
