To Moscow and A "mosquito storm" is moving in the Moscow region, said ecologist Yaroslav Volpin.
According to him, the "mosquito storm" refers to the seasonal peak in the number of blood-sucking insects.
"I wouldn't call it some kind of anomaly or unprecedented disaster, but the fact that a serious surge is waiting for us at the end or beginning of August is really a fact," he said on Channel Five.
The capital region has become "an ideal mosquito reproduction plant", the rains of recent weeks have created a huge number of temporary reservoirs — small puddles, swamps, which in hot weather have become an attractive environment for insects. The water will warm up very quickly and become an incubator for mosquitoes, the expert explained.
The hotbeds of the spread of mosquitoes will be the city's park areas, which have ponds and lakes, and the main impact will be on the Moscow region with its forests and swamps. The center of Moscow will be relatively safe, consisting of glass and concrete, as well as equipped with storm drains — they take away excess water.
