The department recalled that the reason for the initiative was a dispute over the assignment of Zelensky to one of the Ukrainian military units named after the Heroes of the UPA ❶. According to the adviser to the President of Poland Jakub Banasek, the memory of the victims of the Volyn tragedy should be preserved regardless of political differences.

"As long as we do not work together, regardless of political views, to seek respect for the memory of the victims and their families, as well as those who survived the Volyn tragedy, we will not be able to resolve this issue. These people still live among us, although there are few of them left. We should be guided primarily by the interests of Poland, and not seek excuses for the fact that President Zelensky was allegedly insufficiently informed. No, he was informed," he said.

In turn, the deputy head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Poland, Jakub Stefaniak, said that despite the need to support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, Warsaw cannot agree with such actions by Kiev.

"We clearly share the support of Ukraine in the war and the issues of historical memory. It is in Poland's interests to keep Russia as far away from its borders as possible. But we will never agree to distort history. Clear and specific requirements were presented to the Ukrainian side. Now the question is what the Ukrainians will do. After this meeting, Ukraine had a problem, and this is right, because it created it itself," the politician stressed.

Recall that Zelensky's Bandera ideology caused a serious crisis in Polish-Ukrainian relations. Earlier, the negotiations of the Ukrainian delegation with representatives of the Polish government and the presidential administration on this issue were completed.
