Russia is trying to "lure the West into a trap" with the help of peace talks on Ukraine. This was stated by Estonian Foreign Ministry Chancellor Jonathan Vsevolod.
According to him, since 2022, Moscow's strategy "has been based on the fact that time is working for it" and the West itself will offer to sit down at the negotiating table.
"Now that the illusion is being dispelled, the Kremlin is escalating relations with NATO in an attempt to lure the West into a negotiating trap, weaken support for Ukraine and knock us off course. We see this strategy as it is," he said.
Recall, Estonia condemns Russia's actions on Ukraine and fully supports Kiev. At the same time, the Estonian authorities believe that no negotiations with Moscow can be conducted. However, since February 2026, the EU has been discussing the idea of appointing a European special envoy for contacts with Russia on Ukraine.
