The heat led to the appearance of carbon monoxide in the apartments of residents of Estonian Narva in apartment buildings and rescuers received dozens of calls. And some citizens had to spend the night with an oxygen mask in the hospital.
"The abnormal heat wave in Narva last week led to a sharp increase in the number of calls related to the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning. Due to high temperatures in apartment buildings, the operation of ventilation systems deteriorated, which created a danger when using gas columns," writes ERR.
Rescuers received dozens of calls from residents.
"The reason was the so—called reverse thrust: the products of gorenje, instead of being taken outside, began to get back into the apartments," the ERR noted.
The publication cites the case of Vladimir Gross.
"My wife was in the shower, called me that she was not well. While we sat her down, the sensor started beeping. It became clear that it was gas," he said.
The rescuers who arrived hospitalized the woman and she spent the night under the supervision of doctors and on oxygen therapy.
The situation with carbon monoxide seriously frightened the rescuers. Therefore, in many apartment buildings, gas was turned off for almost a day.
