Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico does not plan to attend the Victory Day Parade during his upcoming trip to Moscow on May 9. This was stated by the head of the Slovak government himself.
"I will go to Moscow, lay flowers at the grave of the Unknown Soldier of the Red Army, and I will have a short meeting with President Putin. I will not go to any military parade," he told reporters in Yerevan, where he took part in the summit of the European Political Community (ENP).
According to him, "everything will be as before."
"Sometimes I even feel embarrassed that I have to explain why I'm going to lay flowers to some Unknown soldier of the Red Army. Because it's appropriate. To whom should I carry a wreath, to German soldiers?" Fico said.
He also noted that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began a long time ago and has a certain historical context.
"I will not allow myself to be driven into a position where I should feel any remorse," the Slovak prime minister added.
Fico also noted that at the meeting of the European Political Community, none of the leaders asked him questions about the trip to Russia. According to Fico, everyone knows that he has "insurmountable arguments." At the same time, he stressed the need for dialogue.
"It is still true that Slovakia will not support any military loans to Ukraine and will not provide weapons to Ukraine for free. If someone wants to buy something, let them buy it from us," Fico said.
Recall that the chairman of the Slovak government visited Moscow a year ago. Then he became the only one among the leaders of the countries there The EU and NATO, who arrived in the capital of Russia. He also held talks with Vladimir Putin.
