"For Latvian Latvia": Vice-mayor of Riga urged to fill the streets with a red and white river

The vice-mayor of Riga from the National Bloc, Edwards Ratnieks, announced a "new tradition" in the city on May 9.

"I invite every Latvian to join the rally with flags in Riga "For Latvian Latvia" on May 9. Let's fill the streets of Riga with an endless red-white-red river that will wash away everything foreign and clearly show that Latvia is and will be here!" he urged in a video posted on his Facebook page[1]].

In the comments, Ratnieks's initiative was ridiculed.

"Will it be every year or just before the elections?" one of the commentators asks.

Everyone celebrates Victory Day over fascism on May 8 and 9, and only the losing side can't accept it, social network users say.

Another commentator emphasizes that Ratnieks calls only Latvians to the rally.

"Only Latvians? At least, the Russians did not speak on May 9: "Latvians, don't come," he said.
