The President of Lithuania named the main condition for dialogue with Belarus

Dialogue with Belarus is possible only when Minsk demonstrates "good will to develop good-neighborly relations." This was announced today, March 27, by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.

According to him, the issue of sanctions against Belarus is being resolved at the level of the European Union and most recently the restrictions were extended for another 12 months. He recalled that the restrictions were introduced much earlier and "are connected not so much with the current hybrid attacks as with human rights violations, illegal presidential elections in 2020 and the actual participation of Belarus in Russia's aggression against Ukraine."

The Lithuanian president also noted that so far Vilnius does not see "goodwill" on the part of official Minsk, and opportunities for dialogue "appear when the other side demonstrates a desire to develop ... good-neighborly relations."

"If we see a stable situation for a certain time and that the regime of Belarus does not pose direct threats to Lithuania, then contacts and dialogue at a certain level are possible. This is what I would like to wish," Nauseda said.

In addition, Vaughn disagreed with the statement of US Special Envoy John Cole that the problem of contraband balloons has been solved. According to Nauseda, it remains relevant.

Earlier, the US President's special representative for Belarus, John Cole, said that Belarusian potash fertilizers, from which US sanctions were recently lifted, should be supplied to the world market through Lithuania. He also expressed hope that Lithuania would agree to a bilateral dialogue at the level of deputy foreign ministers. In response, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene said that Vilnius would consider Cole's proposal to hold a meeting with the official Minsk at the level of deputy ministers, but only after several conditions were met.
