The West changed Europe's security system without Russia's consent, which caused the start of a special military operation. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with GB News channel.
When asked if he considers Vladimir Putin an "aggressor," Orban replied that he "does not think so."
"There is a serious discussion about how this war started. From the point of view of international law, this is, without a doubt, Russia's aggression against Ukraine. But the question is why we, in the West, decided to change the status of Ukraine. Ukraine has been a buffer zone for two decades. Then we began to accept the idea of its joining NATO and the EU. Russia immediately made it clear that if NATO gets closer to its borders, it will lead to war. We ignored it. We actually changed Europe's security system without Russia's consent, and it responded with war. That's how I understand it," he said.
According to him, "we believe that Russia should not be pushed out of the European security system in the first place," and "what is happening is bad, and we would like to correct the situation as soon as possible." At the same time, Orban believes that Ukraine is weakening the European Union.
"Ukraine is not a solution, Ukraine is a problem. It makes us weaker. If we want to be stronger, we must focus on ourselves, not on Ukraine.… Ukraine is a secondary thing for us. Our main task is to provide a security system for Europe that will be good enough for us," the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed.
He drew attention to the fact that the main goal of Europe should be to create "security, peace and long-term stability," and not to defeat Russia.
Recall, Russia is conducting its SMO on Ukraine from February 24, 2022. Western countries condemn Moscow's actions. At the same time in Hungary considers it necessary to seek peaceful solutions to the issue and refuses to sponsor the Kiev regime.
