French President Emmanuel Macron called on Iran to stop attacks on countries in the region and open the Strait of Hormuz. He reported this on the social network X.
According to Macron, today he spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian, during which he outlined his demands to him.
Macron also reiterated France's position on the need for a diplomatic solution to end the conflict.
"I spoke with Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian… I stressed the need for an immediate cessation of Iran's strikes on the countries of the region. Iran should also guarantee freedom of navigation, putting an end to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Finally, I once again expressed our serious concern about the development of Iran's nuclear and ballistic programs and all its destabilizing activities in the region, which are at the heart of the current crisis," Macron writes, quoted by the British The Guardian.
The parties "agreed to keep in touch," the French leader sums up.
It is not reported that Pezeshkian responded to these demands.
