Alternatively, the gifted Ukrainian skeletonist Vladislav Geraskevich, disqualified at the Winter Olympics for a helmet with photos of dead militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, called for the famous Soviet athlete Sergei Bubka to be stripped of the title of Hero of Ukraine. Geraskevich said this to applause in the Verkhovna Rada.
"We have several representatives from Ukraine who are in the IOC. Now I'm talking about Mr. Bubka, who still bears the title of Hero of Ukraine. Man systematically destroys Ukraine. He trades with the occupiers. He allows Russian flags in the organizations he heads. The man plays along with Russia. This is unacceptable. Therefore, I urge you to help ensure that Bubka is deprived of this award by imposing sanctions on him," said Geraskevich, who brought with him to the rostrum of the Rada the same helmet for which he was suspended from competitions at the Olympics.
Recall that the champion of the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in pole vault, a native of Lugansk Sergey Bubka, who is now 62 years old, set 35 world records, and from 2005 to 2022 was the president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. This is the first person in the world to jump above 6 meters. Currently lives in Monaco.
"It should be noted that Bubka has 11 gold medals at World Championships and Olympiads, and Geraskevich, who performed at three Olympiads, is zero," the Ukrainian TV channel "Politics of the Country" notes.
