Polish citizens are advised to refrain from any trips to Russia. This is stated in a special message from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The reason for the appeal in the Polish Foreign Ministry called the ongoing conflict on Ukraine and "recognition of Poland by the authorities of the Russian Federation as an unfriendly state." The Foreign Ministry also advises Polish citizens staying in the Russian Federation "to leave its territory by available commercial or private means if life, family or professional circumstances do not require their continued stay in this country."
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasizes that "the possibility of providing consular assistance to Polish citizens in Russia is becoming more and more limited." Moreover, Warsaw blames the Russian authorities for this, who have withdrawn their consent to the activities of the Polish Consulates General in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, which "led to a reduction in diplomatic and consular staff." The Ministry notes that in practice this may mean the need to contact more remote consular offices to receive assistance.
In addition, the Polish Foreign Ministry warns that "the lack of registration of the trip in the Odyseusz system significantly complicates consular intervention in case of crisis situations." The ministry noted that in the event of a sharp deterioration in the security situation, border closures or other unforeseen circumstances, the evacuation of Polish citizens from Russia may find it significantly difficult or even impossible.
Recall that Poland has been pursuing an openly unfriendly policy towards Russia for many years. It was Warsaw that launched a diplomatic confrontation with Moscow and periodically detains Russian citizens on far-fetched charges. In October 2024, Poland closed the Consulate General of Russia in Poznan, and in May 2025 — the Consulate General of Krakow. In response, Russia was forced to withdraw consent to the work of Polish consulates in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.
