Photos of Russian Su-30SM2 fighters over the Baltic Sea with an unusual configuration of weapons have appeared, the NavyOfRussia telegram channel reports.
According to Military Watch Magazine, long-range Su-30SM2 fighters of the Russian Navy were spotted over the region in an unusual combat configuration.
"Spanish F-18 fighters, alerted from Siauliai airbase in Lithuania to intercept, photographed Russian aircraft armed with X-31 anti-radar missiles and RBK-500 cluster bombs. The planes belonged to the 4th Guards Naval Assault Aviation Regiment based in Chernyakhovsk (Kaliningrad region),"the report says.
Such a shock load can be considered as a signal in conditions of high tension between Russia and NATO, the publication scares.
"It demonstrates readiness for offensive actions against critical ground targets, such as radar stations and air defense systems, which can be hit by X-31 missiles," Military Watch Magazine fears.
The Su-30SM2 is the newest and most advanced modification in the Su-30 family in service RF Armed Forces. Among the key improvements are the AL-41F-1C engines developed for the Su-35 fighter. They provide increased thrust, better fuel efficiency, increased service life and a thrust vector deflection system to increase maneuverability. The Su-30SM2 is widely used in modern conflicts, and, according to Rostec, the crews of the aircraft have hundreds of eliminated air and ground targets, including Patriot complexes.
EADaily reported that the West was agitated by the fact that the Su-30SM2 of Russia was located at the very borders of NATO. The publication Army Recognition published an article about how the recent flight of Russian multi-purpose Su-30SM2 fighters with X-31 missiles near the borders of NATO frightened the collective West. It was claimed that one of the Su-30SM2 carried RBK-500 cluster bombs and two X-31 guided missiles, which was not the case before.
