On a container ship that was traveling from Belgium to St. Petersburg, there was an explosion. The vessel was able to be taken to the Russian port.
"A cargo ship under the flag of Liberia exploded in the waters of the Gulf of Finland," the MNS telegram channel reports, citing a source.
According to him, the MSC Giada III container ship was traveling from Belgium to St. Petersburg.
"When the ship reached the Neva Bay, there was an explosion in the engine compartment. A fire started with the flame reaching the deck superstructure. There were 22 people on board at that moment: the captain was a citizen of Russia, the rest were citizens of Myanmar. They were not injured," writes MNS.
To help the container ship arrived from St. Petersburg rescue vessel "Rescuer Karev" and icebreaker "Semyon Dezhnev".
"A few hours later, the fire on the MSC Giada III was eliminated. Hull holes and fuel spills did not occur. The damaged container ship was towed to the seaport of St. Petersburg,"MNS added, adding that law enforcement agencies are investigating.
