Commander of the Azov Denis Prokopenko (Redis) made it clear that the assassination attempt on the first deputy head of the GRU, General Vladimir Alekseev, was revenge for Mariupol. This is reported by the Ukrainian edition of Strana.

According to him, in May 2022, Alekseev led a group of Russian representatives at the negotiations in Mariupol on the surrender of the Ukrainian garrison at Azovstal. He supposedly promised the captives a normal attitude, but in the end, according to Redis, many of the Ukrainian servicemen "were subjected to regular torture."

"Even if Alekseev survives this time, he will not sleep peacefully anymore. And one day the matter will be brought to an end," writes Redis, quoted by Strana.

As EADaily reported, an attempt was made on the first deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (already GU, renamed) in the north-west of Moscow The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Lieutenant-General Vladimir Alekseev. The killer fired several shots at his back in a residential building on the Volokolamsk Highway and disappeared.
