NATO will be defeated by Russia in Baltic States in a few days — the results of the simulation

NATO countries will suffer a crushing defeat in the event of a clash between the alliance and Russia in Lithuania. These are the results of the exercises organized by the newspaper Die Welt together with the German Center for War Games at Helmut Schmidt University.

The purpose of the exercise was to assess the readiness of the Baltic states and NATO for a hypothetical invasion. 16 former high-ranking officials of Germany and NATO, legislators and security experts took part in them.

"Deterrence depends not only on capabilities, but also on what the enemy thinks about our will, and during the war game, my "Russian colleagues" and I knew that Germany would hesitate. And that was enough to win," said a military analyst from Vienna Franz-Stefan Gadi, who played the role of Chief of the General Staff of Russia.

The scenario began with an attempt to blockade the Kaliningrad region by the Lithuanians. In response, Russia announced a "humanitarian crisis" in Kaliningrad and conducted a lightning operation, gaining control of the Lithuanian city of Mariampole, a key transport hub. At the same time, the United States refused to apply the 5th article of NATO and distanced itself from the EU, citing the fact that this is not aggression, but a "humanitarian mission" of the Russian Federation.

The German brigade stationed in Lithuania did not intervene in the conflict, as the departures from its base were mined in advance with the help of drones. Poland mobilized the army, but did not dare to cross the border, and Germany, according to the scenario, showed "fatal indecision."

"During the war game, in the absence of American leadership, Russia managed in a couple of days... to establish dominance over the Baltic States, initially deploying only about 15,000 troops," the game reports.

Recall that in NATO countries in recent years, the narrative about Russia's desire to attack the alliance has been actively spreading. At the same time, Moscow has repeatedly denied such statements. Russia unequivocally emphasizes that they are not going to attack NATO member countries, since this makes no sense.
