The sculpture of an angel with the face of Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni caused a political scandal in Rome. It is reported by Polish RMF24 with reference to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
The center-left Democratic Party demands an explanation from the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli due to the fact that after the restoration of the Roman basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina in the historical center of Rome, one of the angels acquired the face of Meloni. It is noted that we are talking about a restored statue.
"One of the angels above the marble bust of King Umberto II of Italy has a face strikingly similar to To George Meloni, the newspaper reports... the parish priest... also admitted that the resemblance to Meloni is great," RMF24 reports.
The restoration was carried out by a priest and a decorator who works in the parish as a volunteer.
"What has become known is unacceptable," MP Irene Manzi said on behalf of the Democratic Party faction.
The placement of a modern image on a work subject to protection is a serious violation of the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape of Italy, she added.
