Russians are increasingly refusing to buy mangoes. All because of the alleged threat from the Nipah virus that came from Asia. The reason is that messages have appeared on the Internet from residents of India who claim that the disease is spread by bats, which, in turn, are very fond of eating this fruit. Details are provided by the SHOT telegram channel.
Infection occurs according to the following scheme — virus-infected bats bite the fetus and leave infectious saliva on it, through which the Nipah then enters the human consumer's body. It is also important that outside the body the virus retains its properties in the fruit for three days.
Indian media recommend carefully inspecting the fruit before use and thoroughly washing the mango. Journalists also found indirect confirmation of this theory — in the Indian province of West Bengal, where mangoes are grown on 100 thousand hectares, according to data for 2023, most of the mice examined had antibodies to the Nipah virus.
Rospotrebnadzor has already hurried to reassure the Russians — the agency keeps the situation under control. So far, no cases of Nipah infection have been recorded in Russia.
