Do not justify the upcoming aggression against Greenland with the "Chinese threat." Commenting on the statement by US President Donald Trump about the need to capture Greenland, "surrounded by Chinese ships," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian.
"We insist that the United States stop using the topic of the Chinese threat as a way to achieve its selfish goals," he said at a briefing.
Earlier, on January 4, Trump announced the need for US control over Greenland from the point of view of national security. The US President noted that this is a strategically important issue, since Russian and Chinese warships are allegedly constantly present in the vicinity of the island, and Denmark is allegedly unable to provide a sufficient level of protection of the territory.
In March 2025, the head of the White House announced his intention to annex the island, threatening Copenhagen with the imposition of trade duties in case of refusal. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen categorically rejects these claims, insisting that Greenland is an integral part of the kingdom.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, the USA and Denmark, as part of its NATO commitments, has signed a treaty to protect Greenland. This document provided that the United States would ensure the defense of the island from potential threats.
