Pashinyan hopes that Russia will restore roads to Turkey as soon as possible

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that Russia will restore the railway lines leading to Azerbaijan and Turkey as soon as possible.

He recalled that these sites are in the Russian concession management.

"If there are any obstacles with this, the Armenian government is ready to take back these plots from concession management and restore them with state funds," the Armenian Prime Minister told reporters, commenting on the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin held on December 22.

On December 18, Pashinyan said that he had asked the Russian side to fully restore the sections of the railway that lead to Azerbaijan and Turkey.

"I have appealed to Russian partners with a request to urgently proceed with the complete restoration of the railway from Yeraskh to Nakhichevan and Akhurik. I hope colleagues from Russia will implement this request as soon as possible," he said.

In October, Azerbaijan lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia, and for the first time since the 1990s, Russia sent grain to Armenia by train through Azerbaijan.

In February 2008, the railway infrastructure of Armenia was transferred for a period of 30 years to the concession management of a wholly owned subsidiary of Russian Railways — South Caucasus Railway CJSC with the right to extend for another 10 years.
