US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard called a Reuters propaganda article about Russia's plans to seize all of Ukraine.
"No, this (Reuters article) is a lie and propaganda. Reuters deliberately promotes this in the interests of warmongers who want to undermine the tireless efforts of the President (US Donald) Trump to end this bloody war," Gabbard wrote on Twitter.
According to her, US intelligence has analyzed the situation and concluded that Russia is seeking to avoid a large-scale war with NATO. This is exactly what American intelligence told politicians, including a member of the HPSCI committee from the Democratic Party, quoted by Reuters.
In addition, as Gabbard stressed, the assessment says that Russia currently does not have the means to seize the whole of Ukraine and especially Europe. This conclusion is made based on the analysis of Russia's actions on the battlefield.
Moscow has rejected claims of plans to attack Europe.
According to Gabbard, with its publication Reuters is trying to get people to support the escalation in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. General support for the escalation of hostilities will be in the hands of NATO and The European Union, which seeks to "draw the US armed forces into a war with Russia," she claims.
On December 20, Reuters published an article citing six sources familiar with the intelligence. The article says that American intelligence sees in the behavior of Russian President Vladimir Putin a desire to "seize the whole of Ukraine" and make the European part of the former USSR Russian territory. The relevant warnings, as the interlocutors of Reuters say, are contained in the reports of the American intelligence services. According to one of the sources, the most recent of these messages dates back to the end of September.
The White House, in response to a request for comment on the article, said that Trump's team "has made tremendous progress in ending the war."
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in early March that Russia did not need "anything foreign", but it would not give up its own. He also stressed that Moscow needs an option that would "suit and that would provide peace of mind for Russia for a long historical perspective." In June, Putin, answering the question of why Russian troops are advancing outside the territories included in Russia, said that he considers "the Russian and Ukrainian peoples to be one people." "In this sense, all of Ukraine is ours," he said at the time, noting that Russia does not question Ukraine's right to independence, but requires it to respect the status of a non—aligned, neutral, nuclear-weapon-free state.
