The former head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehdiyev tried to carry out a coup d'etat with the help of support in Russia, according to Azerbaijani media. As a "proof" Apa.az allegedly publishes Mehdiyev's letter.
"There was information in the media that Ramiz Mehtiv intended to carry out a coup d'etat in the country and in this regard sent a letter to the heads of certain structures of Russia. It is also reported that this letter was at the disposal of the Azerbaijani special services. Despite the fact that some claimed that such a letter did not exist and did not believe in its authenticity, the presented fact shows that Ramiz Mehdiyev really hatched illusory plans to carry out a coup in Azerbaijan with the support of a foreign state," the report says.
The publication also states that "neither Ramiz Mehdiyev himself, nor those circles with whom he tried to establish contact, were able to implement such a plan."
As EADaily reported, former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev was placed under house arrest for four months in Azerbaijan. He held this post for 24 years and was honorably dismissed by Ilham Aliyev in 2019. In 2019-2022, he was Acting President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
Mehdiyev was charged under the articles "actions aimed at seizing state power", "high treason" and "legalization of property obtained by criminal means". According to media reports, he "headed a group of influential people of Azerbaijan and was preparing the overthrow of Ilham Aliyev."
