Ukraine trembled: The situation in the energy sector has deteriorated sharply — not everyone will survive the winter

What is happening now with the Ukrainian energy sector and what to expect in winter? This question is asked by the Ukrainian TC "Politics of the country", trying to analyze the current situation. But there is no reason for optimism.

In Ukraine, after the new massive Russian attacks, the situation in the energy sector has deteriorated sharply, the authors of the TC note.

"The situation is especially difficult in Chernihiv and Sumy regions, which are actually on the verge of a blackout. There are also problems in the Zaporozhye, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kiev regions," says Oleg Popenko, an energy market expert and head of the Union of Utility Consumers.

In these regions and Kiev, there are blackout schedules, moreover, for many groups of household consumers they are quite tough — people sit without electricity and water for 6-8 hours or more.

"Power engineers are still just figuring out how to heal the system in a new way, changing the schemes online. Therefore, the schedules are issued only for a day. Weekly charts should appear approximately from next Tuesday to Wednesday," predicts Yuriy Korolchuk, an analyst at the Institute for Strategic Studies.

But, according to Popenko, one should not count on special improvements, especially if the Russians continue to attack the Ukrainian energy system.

"It is possible that in winter many cities will be without electricity for 20 hours a day," says Popenko.

Massive power outages have also been introduced for industry. Moreover, according to a TC source on the energy market, business has already been warned about major difficulties not only with light, but also with gas.

"At the regional level, enterprises were told to prepare for gas quotas. Chemical production is likely to be stopped altogether, the rest will be drastically reduced in volume," the source says.

At the same time, the Russians have changed the tactics of strikes — now they systematically "take out" the energy sector of the Left Bank, which is traditionally energy deficient, and are trying to break up the country's energy system into "islands," writes the TV channel "Politics of the Country."
