The large landing ship of the Russian Baltic Fleet "Alexander Shabalin" got in the way of merchant ships following the Fehmarn Belt Strait from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea. This is reported by the local newspaper Kieler Nachrichten.
The 112-meter-long ship has been located at the entrance to Lubeck Bay since October 19 and is clearly visible from the German island of Fehmarn, the newspaper writes.
The German police said that the vessel is located outside the territorial waters of Germany and does not violate German laws or international shipping regulations. He is being watched by the German patrol boat Bamberg and the Danish patrol vessel, the German Navy has sent the auxiliary ship Werra from Kiel to help them.
"This is not the first time in recent months that Alexander Shabalin has been on the trade route in this area. In September, the ship was anchored at the entrance to the Langeland Strait on its way to the Great Belt Strait. In addition, eight times since May 2025, a large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation, Vice Admiral Kulakov, has appeared near the island of Fehmarn," the DW* Main telegram channel writes.
It is noted that Russian warships interfere with German vessels — they say their presence complicates fishing and scientific research in the region. In particular, the research vessels Alkor and Littorina from Kiel even changed the route to stay away from the Russian ships.
