For membership in the European Union, Serbia must impose sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Urusla von der Leyen at a meeting with the President of the Republic Alexander Vucic.
"The path to the EU can be long and requires efforts, including reforms. But the second point on this path is that we need to achieve greater coherence in our foreign policy, including with regard to sanctions against Russia," she said.
In turn, Vucic stressed that the EU remains Serbia's strategic choice.
"For Serbia, membership in the European Union is a strategic choice and a priority of its foreign policy, and this will not change, at least until the next elections, and, as I believe, after them," he said.
According to him, Serbia continues its course towards European integration, despite the difficulties faced by the negotiation process.
"Since the beginning of the conflict on We have not opened a single new negotiating chapter and not a single cluster to Ukraine. And yet, I think we've done something lately. We still have a lot to do, but it is important that we ourselves, inside the country, hold talks on the directions of our policy," the Serbian leader said.
Recall that Serbia does not officially support the introduction of sanctions against Russia by Western countries. At the same time, Belgrade is trying to maintain good relations with the EU, hoping to join the union.
