People's Artist of Russia Sergey Bezrukov studied a lot of archival documents, including the case of his death, for the role of poet Sergei Yesenin in the series. This is reported by the portal Life.ru .
According to the artist, the version of the poet's suicide does not fit in with the investigation materials, which Bezrukov carefully examined together with Yesenin's niece Svetlana. The actor is sure that the poet was killed.
"When I look at Yesenin's biography, at its tragic end, then, in my deep conviction, I can say that it was a murder," Bezrukov said.
He believes that it is necessary to reopen the investigation into the Esenin case, exhume the body and examine all the evidence. Bezrukov is sure that the label of "suicide martyr", which stuck to the poet in Soviet times, greatly distorts the perception of his creative heritage.
Sergei Yesenin (1895-1925) is one of the greatest poets and writers of the Silver Age. The 130th anniversary of the poet will be celebrated in 2025.
As reported by EADaily, in December last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported Bezrukov's idea of holding the Year of Yesenin in Russia.
