American fighters "intercepted" Russian Air Force planes near Alaska. This is reported by the CBS News channel with reference to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
As stated in the statement of NORAD, these were two long-range strategic bombers Tu-95 and two Su-35 fighters. They were found in international airspace bordering the sovereign airspace of the United States and Canada. The incident occurred the day before, on September 24.
It is noted that after the detection of Russian aircraft, an E-3 long-range radar detection and control aircraft, four F-16 fighters and four KC-135 tanker aircraft were lifted into the air for their "accurate identification and interception" in the Alaska air defense identification zone.
A similar case was recorded in August, the TV channel recalled.
