The chief of staff of the armed forces of Afghanistan, Qari Fasihuddin Fitrat, rejected the demand of US President Donald Trump to return the Bagram airbase to the control of the United States. This is reported by Bloomberg.
It is noted that Fitrat stated this at an event in Kabul. He also warned that any hostility would provoke the "strongest" response.
"Afghanistan is completely independent, governed by its own people and does not depend on any foreign power. We are not afraid of any hooligans or aggressors," the military commander said.
Meanwhile, the head of the Afghan Defense Ministry, Mohammad Yakub Mujahid, stressed that if the Americans still want to get the bases, "Afghanistan is ready to fight them for another 20 years."
As reported by EADaily, Donald Trump threatened Afghanistan with bad consequences if he refused to transfer the Bagram base to the United States. "If Afghanistan does not return the Bagram airbase to those who built it — the United States of America — then bad things will happen," he wrote on the Truth Social network.
