President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called Russian President Vladimir Putin and congratulated him on the results of the meeting with US President Donald Trump, which took place in Alaska on August 15.

"The head of our state congratulated his colleague on the results of the meeting with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage. In his opinion, the negotiations contributed to a better understanding by the American side of the Russian position on Ukraine, which will help to find common ground on this complex issue," the press service of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Tokayev considers the summit with the United States a breakthrough for strengthening Russian positions on the world stage.

Vladimir Putin, in turn, informed his colleague about the main aspects of the meeting.

Tokayev also thanked Putin for Moscow's cooperation with Astana in the energy sector.
