India continues to buy oil from Russia, and leading Indian state-owned oil refineries are negotiating with Moscow on further purchases of energy resources from the Russian Federation.

This was reported on Saturday, August 2 by the Indian newspaper Mint, citing informed sources. Thus, they refuted the assumptions of US President Donald Trump that India had stopped buying Russian oil.

The article emphasizes that Indian oil refining companies make supply decisions "guided by price, grade of oil, reserves, logistics and other economic factors."

At the same time, the Indian side uses Washington's threats of secondary sanctions as a lever of pressure on Moscow, seeking additional discounts from the Russian side.

According to the agency's interlocutors, over the past few days, Indian oil refineries have already been able to purchase two large batches of Russian oil with higher discounts than usual.

It is also claimed that there is no decision on the part of New Delhi to slow down oil supplies from the Russian Federation or stop them. India does not intend to stop oil imports from Russia.

The sources clarified that the deals currently being negotiated envisage deliveries in September. And until then, the capacities of India's refineries are already fully loaded.

Earlier, EADaily reported that US President Donald Trump announced India's intention to stop buying Russian oil for the sake of concluding a trade deal with the United States. He told reporters about this at the White House.
