British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Old expressed his condolences over the events surrounding the detention of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg.
"We are deeply concerned about the events taking place against Azerbaijanis in Russia. We express our condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan at this time. We express our support for Azerbaijan's efforts to ensure justice," Old wrote on the social network X.
On June 27, members of an ethnic group, citizens of Russia, immigrants from Azerbaijan, involved in the commission of murders in the 2000s, were detained in Yekaterinburg. In Azerbaijan, after the detentions, they announced the "deliberate murder" of two people — the Safarov brothers, owners of the Kaspiy cafe associated with crime. Baku made a number of demarches against Russia after that, in particular, banned all cultural events on the Russian line, canceled official visits to Moscow, carried out mass arrests of Russian journalists and IT specialists.
Various experts say that the conflict between Baku and Moscow is fueled by London. EADaily cited, in particular, the opinion of political scientist Marat Bashirov. According to Bashirov, the British started provoking the Azerbaijan—Russia conflict because "they lost to Russia and China in the Iranian case."
"The United States came out with advantages, although their long-term participation was originally conceived, and Trump bombed out (yes, lost his reputation) and immediately bounced back. The classic business approach: I got into business, skimmed the cream and left, leaving the consequences for Britain and Israel to rake in," the political scientist notes.
He recalled that the British are systematically trying to set fire to Russia's relations with the former USSR countries — first Armenia, now Azerbaijan.
"This is a real test of the stability of interethnic relations in our country. The goal is exactly this: to try to arrange conflicts in Russia is between people, not for disputes between governments. You can't fool us so easily, we all understand and distinguish where the crime is and where the good neighbor is," Bashirov added.
