Sanctioned tanker with oil from Russia turned on the transmitter: Syria has received US indulgences

Washington has suspended sanctions against Syria for six months. The tankers with Russian oil going there no longer hide the final destination. Even if they themselves are under current US restrictions.

As EADaily reported, tankers with Russian oil products and oil deliver cargo to Syria. Under what conditions, it is not known. It is known that until recently they hid the final destination. But after Washington suspended sanctions against Syria, tankers stopped doing this.

At least, the tanker Mitzel carries up to 160 thousand tons of oil from Murmansk and points to the port of Banyas, where the main refinery of Syria is located. On May 29, the ship passed by the coast of Norway in the North Sea. The tanker plans to reach Syria on June 13.

Washington suspended sanctions against the Mediterranean country, where the radical group HTS seized power in December, on May 23.

"In accordance with the President's promise to ease sanctions against Syria, I have waived mandatory sanctions for 180 days so that they do not hinder the ability of our partners to make investments that contribute to stability and make efforts to rebuild Syria. These exceptions will facilitate the provision of electricity, energy, water, and will also allow for more effective humanitarian assistance throughout Syria," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.

The Mitzel tanker itself is under US sanctions, which were announced in January 2025. But, obviously, this does not bother anyone.

As EADaily reported, prior to this, the supply of oil and petroleum products to Syria was also provided by tankers that fell under US sanctions, accusing ships of bypassing the ceiling of the price of raw materials from Russia.

It is known that at least four oil shipments have already been delivered to Syria. Previously, Iran was the main supplier. But after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December last year, Tehran stopped exporting.
