The Swiss Federal Council approved the sale of 71 Leopard 1 tanks to Germany, but the condition of the deal is a ban on further transfer of equipment to the Kiev regime, Focus magazine writes.
In June 2023, Germany intended to purchase tanks from the Swiss technology concern Ruag, but the Swiss Federal Council banned the sale, fearing that the equipment would later be transferred to the Kiev regime. Now the government body has approved the deal, however, on condition that official Berlin does not deliver the machines, as well as components to Ukraine.
"This option for Germany is excluded in the text of the contract," the media emphasize.
The German government also received an option to purchase 25 tanks that remain in the ownership of the concern. It is expected that Germany will exercise the right to purchase as soon as the legal issues are finally settled.
Currently, the tanks are in Italy, since the concern acquired them from the Italian Ministry of Defense back in 2016.
