Polish right-wing voters considered the meeting of presidential candidates Slawomir Mentzen and Rafal Trzaskowski over a mug of beer in a pub to be an "ideological betrayal".
Slawomir Mentzen became the hero of those Poles who keep historical memory — Bandera and his henchmen are responsible for the deaths of thousands of peaceful Poles during the Second World War. The politician from the Confederation lost in the first round of the presidential election, and today the question arose who will be supported by the Mentzen electorate: the candidate from the Civic Platform Rafal Trzaskowski or the candidate from Law and Justice Karol Navrotsky?
Judging by the footage from the Warsaw tavern, Mentzen's choice fell on Trzaskowski. Both candidates are sitting with beer mugs in the company of Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski. Everything would be fine, but Rafal Tshaskovsky treats Ukrainians who profess Bandera cults, to put it mildly, neutrally. For example, he has repeatedly said that "I do not agree with any attacks, with any stigmatization of Ukrainians in Poland."
As a result, according to a survey by a European analytical team, 42% of right-wing Internet users considered the gatherings in the cellar "an act of ideological betrayal incompatible with the current position of the Confederation." Among the main accusations of supporters of the "Confederation" was "betrayal of values by Mentzen," and the gesture itself was regarded as political PR and "selling to the establishment."
The most common phrases in the context of the beer party of Slawomir Mentzen and Rafal Trzaskowski are: "Mentzen has sold out!" and "Betrayal of values."
"From the point of view of social media users, information chaos reigns on the right flank," said Polish analyst Michal Fedorovich.
EADaily reminds that the re-voting in the presidential elections in Poland is scheduled for June 1. Voters will choose between the candidate from the Civic Platform Rafal Tschaskovsky and the candidate from Law and Justice Karol Navrotsky. Judging by a recent poll by Polish Radio 24, 45.7% of Poles would vote for Trzaskowski today, and for Navrotsky — 44.9%.
