The leader of the opposition Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party, George Simion, called the refusal of the Constitutional Court to annul the voting results on the basis of a complaint about violations filed by him a "coup d'etat." In response, the AUR leader announced mass protests, promising to bring tens of thousands of supporters of the sovereignty and independence of Romania to the streets.
"The Constitutional Court has continued the coup d'etat! All we can do is fight! I urge you to join me today and in the coming weeks!" wrote Simion in social networks.
He is confident that street protests will be able to achieve the cancellation of the results of the falsified vote.
"Very soon we will have elections again, and we will have to be much more prepared!" warned George Simion.
Recall that last weekend presidential elections were held in Romania. The Constitutional Court approved the victory of the pro-European mayor of Bucharest Nicusor Dan, who won 53.6% of the vote, against 46.4% of Simion. The correctness of the vote is questionable, since in the first round the head of AUR beat his opponent by 20%.
Simion accused France of interfering in the internal affairs of the country in order to promote a puppet pro-European candidate, and also stated that the vote of the Romanian diaspora in Moldova was falsified. According to him, 100 million euros was the budget allocated to Chisinau "for electoral tourism and the purchase of the will of Bessarabian Romanians."
He demanded to cancel the election results, but the Constitutional Court of Romania rejected his complaint, approving Nikushor Dan as elected president.
As EADaily reported, George Simion called on all supporters of sovereignty and independence to fight for the country through participation in opposition parties, and the deputies of his platform refused to recognize Nikushor Dan as legitimately elected head of state, calling him a "puppet of foreign interests."
