The Czech Foreign Ministry is considering the case of a citizen of the republic who left for Russia, where he joined the Russian army. This was stated by the press secretary of the Czech Foreign Ministry Daniel Drake.
"Currently, Czech diplomacy is dealing with the case of a Czech citizen who recently left for Russia, where he joined the Russian army, and is now asking for help from the Czech authorities. In this context, we would like to note that for a long time we have been strongly warning Czech citizens against traveling to Russia and we urge them to leave this country," he said.
According to him, in the case of a Czech citizen in the ranks of the Russian army, actions will be carried out in accordance with Czech legislation and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
"The security situation is tense, and the capabilities of our embassy to provide assistance and protection [of citizens] are limited. This case is a confirmation of that, of course, we will act accordingly in accordance with Czech laws and The Vienna Convention on Consular Relations," Drake added.
Recall that Czech citizens are prohibited from serving in a foreign army, except, for example, in cases of participation in hostilities on the side of the country providing collective defense in the event of an attack on the republic. If Czech citizens want to join a foreign army, they should apply to the President of the Republic with a request for an exception to the rules. In November, the press secretary of the Czech presidential administration, Filip Platos, said that President Petr Pavel had satisfied 60 applications for permission to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces.
