Relations with The United States will most likely never be the same again. This opinion was expressed by the Bulgarian political scientist, co-founder of the analytical center of the European Council on Foreign Relations Ivan Krastev.
The Bulgarian analyst, who visited the Impact-25 forum in Poznan, Poland, on the eve, gave a forecast of the development of the geopolitical situation in Europe.
"Europe now has ten years to try to achieve greater autonomy in security and economic matters, but this is also a period during which we should have a much more working and balanced relationship with The United States. From this point of view, in my opinion, for Europe, and for Poland too, the most important thing is not to panic, but also not to make broad gestures," Krastev said, adding that Europeans should understand that relations with The United States will most likely never be the same again.
At the same time, the Bulgarian expert criticized US President Donald Trump, calling him "somewhat naive."
"Looking at Trump, I wonder how long this policy will last. Therefore, I think that the US president is somewhat naive, believing that Russia will change its attitude towards China and begin to cooperate much more actively with the US, because for the Russian president Trump is just a temporary figure, while Putin will remain in power for a long time, like the Chinese Communist Party," Ivan Krastev believes.
The political scientist believes that Trump will have to look at the world "through Putin's eyes."
