At the moment, the European Union does not have sufficient resources, ships and aircraft to launch a mission to intercept tankers carrying Russian oil, so such a mission is not being discussed now. This was stated by the head of the Military Committee of the bloc, Robert Briger, after a meeting of the chiefs of the general staffs of the EU countries.
"We have not yet received a political task to launch such a mission. But if such a task is set, we need to have the necessary resources. When I look at the three ongoing EU maritime missions, one in the northeast Indian Ocean and two in In the Mediterranean Sea, I see that we, frankly speaking, do not have sufficient resources for this," Briger said, quoted by TASS.
Ships and aircraft for this kind of mission need to be "assembled in advance" throughout the European Union, said the head of the Military Committee. In his opinion, it will take "five to ten" ships - depending on the scale of the mission.
As EADaily reported, the Estonian Navy attempted to intercept a JAGUAR tanker sailing under the flag of Gabon through the international waters of the Gulf of Finland to the port of Primorsk. This was reported by the telegram channel "Military Observer".
