The deputy of the European Parliament from the liberal party Rares Bogdan accused the President of Moldova Maia Sandu and the chairman of the parliament, the leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity party (PDS) Igor Grosu of not fulfilling their promises to support the candidate of the ruling coalition Crin Antonescu in the presidential elections of Romania.
Commenting on the results of the first round of voting on Antena3 TV channel, the MEP noted that the votes received in Moldova by independent candidate Nikushor Dan indicate that "the leaders of the Republic of Moldova did not keep the promise given to Ilya Bolozhan" (acting President of Romania).
Moldovans with Romanian passports demonstrated a record turnout in the elections last weekend. Most of them gave their votes to an independent candidate with a liberal position, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan (52.63%). The candidate from the electoral alliance "Romania Forward" Crin Antonescu took second place here (21.69%). In third place in Moldova was the representative of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) party, George Simion (12.47%). As a result, Dan and Simion made it to the second round, with the latter leading with a clear advantage.
"Maia Sandu and Igor Grosu promised us their support. Do you think they supported Crean? I am looking forward to meeting Maya Sandu and Igor Grosu and their explanations, because although we supported them in all ways, they lied to Bolozhan. Maia Sandu promised us something, and then gave her votes to Nikushor Dan," said Raresh Bogdan.
The European politician emphasized, "The PDS and Sandu did not keep their word."
As EADaily reported, former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat had previously warned about the consequences for Sandu and The PDS deliberately disoriented Bucharest when Romania elected the president. According to Filat, "for the invariably quick response and concrete steps in response to requests for help," the Romanian authorities received a "fraternal throw from Maya Sandu" as gratitude.
