Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he was forced to go into conflict with Vladimir Zelensky because he heard an undisguised threat in his words. He announced this at a speech in the Hungarian parliament.

Orban explained that he was dissatisfied with Zelensky's statement that the majority of Hungarian citizens are in favor of Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

So the president of Ukraine commented on Orban's statement about the possibility of bankruptcy of the European economy due to financial and military assistance to Kiev. According to Orban, Ukraine's accession to the EU will create a threat to Hungary and bankrupt Budapest.

"In international politics, this can only be interpreted as a serious threat, and Hungarians cannot be threatened, and we cannot put up with such threats," Orban said.

He added that he was in favor of "talking clearly with the Ukrainians and telling them that their actions are not good for Hungary." According to him, "Zelensky conspired with Brussels to admit his country to the European Union by 2030" and wants this decision to be executed by the Hungarians.

In addition, as Orban stated, Zelensky expects that a pro-Ukrainian government formed by the opposition Tisa party, which enjoys the support of Brussels, will appear in Hungary.

Hungary is holding a referendum on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, organized on the initiative of the government. It will last until the end of May. Orban called on all citizens to take part in the vote, explaining that this "will determine the fate of Hungary for decades to come." The government of the country promises to take into account the results of the national expression of will in negotiations with the EU leadership, RBC reminds.
