Polish Ambassador to Berlin Jan Tombinski criticized the plan of the future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding border control.
In an interview with Politico magazine, Tombinski stated:
"The control on the German-Polish border is already creating a problem for everyday border traffic. This complicates the functioning of the EU internal market. That's why we don't want to tighten border controls."
Politico notes that these words were said just a few days before the first visit of the future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to Warsaw.
EADaily reminds that the Christian Democrats led by Merz, who are to come to power in Germany in two days in a coalition with the Social Democrats, have long promised to take a tougher stance on migration issues in order to "regain right-wing voters." Merz himself announced the introduction of stricter border controls from the first day after winning the parliamentary elections.
