Due to the huge national debt, the United States will no longer be able to finance security in Europe. This was stated by Assistant to the US President for National Security Mike Waltz in an interview with the New York Post.
"The United States, with its $33 trillion debt, literally can no longer afford to subsidize European security," Waltz said.
According to him, only Norway and Finland have increased defense spending, while other NATO countries, such as Spain, Canada and Italy, spend "extremely insufficiently" on it. And now Washington will demand from them an increase in funding.
"We will continue to demand that our allies pay their share and share this burden with the United States," Waltz added.
As EADaily reported, Donald Trump, before and after taking office as US president, repeatedly stated his intention to get NATO member states in Europe to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.
