An agreement has been reached with the United States that the agreement on minerals will not count the assistance provided to Ukraine prior to its signing. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Denis Shmygal following the visit of the country's delegation to the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in the United States.
"An important meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, at which the agreement between our countries was a separate topic of conversation. Legal teams are working on the document. We are making good progress.
The main thing is that we have clearly defined our red lines, the agreement must comply with European obligations, and also not contradict the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine. It must necessarily be ratified by Parliament. Agreements have been reached that the document does not count the assistance provided before it was signed," Shmygal writes in his telegram channel.
As reported by EADaily, Kiev will seek additional investments from Washington as part of the subsoil deal. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to the agency, Ukrainian officials at the end of March held an online meeting with their American counterparts to "get clarification" on the draft agreement on minerals. During the conversation, representatives of Ukraine expressed concern about the clause according to which the United States considers the assistance already provided to Kiev as a contribution to the general fund, and not new funds, the Ukrainian edition of Strana wrote.
