Representatives of Washington, London, Paris, Germany and Ukraine could not meet in London to discuss the Ukrainian issue because the parties could not bring their positions closer on some issues. This was stated at a briefing by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"As far as we understand, it has not yet been possible to bring positions closer on some issues, and therefore this meeting has not taken place now," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He also noted that the meeting in London was supposed to take place "so that the United States could continue its mediation efforts," TASS quoted.
EADaily adds that the Foreign Ministers of France and Germany, Jean Noel-Barraud and Annalena Berbok, decided not to go to the settlement talks on Ukraine to London amid the cancellation of the visit to the UK by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The head of the State Department changed his mind about participating in the meeting after Vladimir Zelensky refused to recognize Crimea as Russian. Officially, the department explained Rubio's decision by his busy schedule.
According to the Sky News channel, negotiations on Ukraine will still take place, but at a lower level — high-ranking officials of Great Britain, France, Germany, the USA and Ukraine. The American delegation will be headed by Special presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg. A bilateral meeting is also planned between the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and the UK Andriy Sibiga and David Lammy.
