The Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera described the reaction of the Chinese media to the death of the Pope. It was noted that the Chinese reacted to this topic differently than most of the world's media.
Journalists around the world are reporting on the death of Pope Francis. However, the Italian daily Corriere della Sera noted that the reaction of the Chinese was different from most of the world's media.
"The Chinese are hiding the death of the Pope," writes Corriere della Sera.
The online editions of the largest Chinese newspapers and major Chinese portals, including English-language ones, published only brief information about the death of Francis, consisting of several lines. Many editorial offices limited themselves to publishing only a cursory report sent by the Rome correspondent of the state news agency Xinhua. Moreover, these materials were not published on the main pages, but were found among many other news in the sections of world information.
The daily Corriere della Sera especially emphasized that Francis wanted to improve relations between China and The Vatican. The publication informs that, although the Pope did not visit Beijing, the trip to the Chinese capital was perhaps the most interesting for him. At the same time, despite Francis' position, the Pope's death "was actually ignored by the Chinese media."
