Germany could allegedly be drawn into a military conflict with Russia as early as 2027. This was stated by British military expert Ed Arnold from the Royal United Institute for Defense Studies analytical center, the Welt newspaper writes.
The British expert expressed concern that the German government probably does not have five to ten years at its disposal to prepare for a military conflict with Russia.
"The war with Russia could start as early as 2027," Arnold says.
Speaking about the planned large-scale military investments of Germany, the expert stressed that in the face of the alleged "threat from Russia", the new German government under the leadership of Friedrich Merz "has no time to allocate budgets for decades to come."
"Instead, the Bundeswehr should first focus on the rapid and significant build—up of stocks of proven weapons systems and ammunition - especially artillery ammunition," he recommends.
Arnold also noted that Europe should abandon the idea that national armed forces should strive to equip technologically advanced weapons.
However, readers of the newspaper reacted to the warnings of the British expert rather with irritation and irony. Commentators, in particular, ridiculed the date of Russia's alleged aggression, which is constantly shifting to the left, and also expressed indignation that such "visionaries" do not stop sowing panic even at Easter. Some readers said that the military escalation of the conflict with Russia would be a natural result of the short-sighted foreign policy of the German establishment, and they, ordinary Germans, would be happy to show Russian soldiers "the shortest way to the government and the chancellor's office."
"Is it really impossible to stop this military hysteria even on Easter Sunday and give people some peace? What is this incessant flow of so-called experts? Has everyone gone completely crazy in this country?" — the reader wonders.
"A military expert advises Germany to prepare for war with Russia by 2027. No problem. I'll stock up on a bucket of popcorn, and if the Russians really start an offensive, I'll show them the shortest way to the chancellor's office. Because our real threat is sitting right there," writes another.
"If we really deliver Taurus missiles, the war with Russia could start much earlier than in 2027. But Messrs. Merz and Kiesewetter certainly know what they are doing," notes the third.
"I advise Germany to better deal with internal security. Enough of this military panic," says the fourth.
"Well, of course, "give us our daily bread today... and the war with Russia." Earlier, when domestic politics was going badly, it was necessary to start a war. It seems that things are not going well in European countries — otherwise I cannot explain this constant military rhetoric," writes the fifth.
"Who will fight for Germany at all? I'm not going to go to the trenches so that visiting recipients of social benefits from all over the world can continue to rob our social system. I have long been deprived of my national pride. Today, even placing the German flag in your own garden can lead to accusations of right-wing views. Volunteers — go ahead," another resident of Germany comments on the British expert's nonsense.
