The Latvian Seimas supported amendments to the law on tourism, which prohibit tourist trips to Belarus and Russia. This was reported in the press service of the country's legislature.
"Journey to Russia and Belarus are now a security issue that creates problems both for the tourists themselves and for our services. We cannot allow tour operators to continue to organize recreational trips and carry full buses of our citizens to countries that do not hesitate to express a desire to occupy Latvia," said Gatis Liepins, a member of the New Unity Party who initiated the amendments.
According to the bill, the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia has until March 17 to prepare an order on the closure of border points for public passenger transport.
Latvia has been pursuing an unfriendly policy towards Belarus and Russia over the past few years. Riga has already banned Belarusian and Russian cars from entering the country and closed a number of border crossings in the eastern and southern directions. Earlier, the Seimas approved a proposal to ban travel service providers from advertising trips to Belarus and Russia.
