A third of the employees of DOGE, the government efficiency department headed by Elon Musk, have submitted a collective resignation letter. The changes in the team of the businessman, who is called the "gray cardinal" of the US president, are reported by AFP.
About twenty officials who are part of the Elon Musk-led apparatus responsible for reducing state and federal government spending submitted collective resignation letters in a letter addressed to the White House on Tuesday.
"We will not use our technical skills to undermine the state apparatus," the letter says.
Their collective departure means a reduction by almost a third of the staff of DOGE, the department of public administration efficiency overseen by a billionaire loyal to Donald Trump, which the Republican president created on the day of his inauguration on January 20.
"We have sworn to serve the American people and to honor our oath throughout the term of our administrations. But it has become clear that we can no longer fulfill these obligations," the officials wrote in a letter seen by the AFP news agency and addressed to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
"We will not use our technical knowledge to undermine critical government computer systems, compromise sensitive American data, or dismantle critical government services," the dissatisfied said.
Prior to inclusion in DOGE, the retired employees worked in the already existing federal government department of the United States Digital Service (USDS), which was included in the new structure. Since then, they have been associated with a brutal attack on the federal administration, which is presented as an anti-bureaucratic step and which is designed to save American taxpayers money.
Those who quit also told about "15-minute interviews with people who wore guest badges in the White House" the day after the inauguration.
"Some refused to identify themselves, asked us about political views, tried to turn us against each other and demonstrated their limited technical skills," the letter adds.
